Down to Earth Climate Tech

We are a biochar carbon removal company located in Finland.

Our approach

Together with our partners, we integrate pyrolysis where sidestreams are generated to produce biochar, carbon removal, and energy. By establishing industrial ecosystems we can achieve mutual environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Who are we?

Our international team consists of researchers, engineers, and business experts. In addition to the industrial operations, we are an active R&D partner. With our pilot-scale pyrolysis reactors, we can make proof-of-concept studies on new biomass feedstocks and develop biochar for value-added applications.

Biochar coming out of pilot scale continous pyrolysis process

PUHI Karanoja

We are building our first biochar production plant in the Industrial Park MORE, located in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The location is ideal for biochar production as it allows local cooperation, is close to the feedstock, has access to the district heating network. The biochar production will begin during Q2 2024.

Products and services

Biochar (pre-order)

The biochar production will begin in Q2 2024, we are currently taking pre-orders. Biochar will be certified according to the European Biochar Certificate.

Piloting services (available now)

Do you have sidestreams that you are looking to turn into biochar?

With our lab-scale batch and continuous pyrolysis reactors, we can study your feedstock’s suitability for commercial biochar production.

Carbon credits (pre-order)

Carbon credits based on Biochar Carbon Removal (BCR) will be available in Q3 2024. Credits will be certified according to international carbon standard.

PUHI alliance (available now)

Our expertise is building and operating pyrolysis factories that turn biomass into biochar, heat, and other pyrolysis co-products. We are looking for partners to establish industrial symbiosis for mutual climate and environmental benefits,

Example of PUHI piloting services & alliance:

  1. Feedstock assessment, drying & pretreatment

  2. Pyrolysis test using a batch pyrolysis process

  3. Biochar quality analysis and assessment

  4. Scale-up piloting using a continuous pyrolysis process

  5. Plan for establishing commercial biochar production

  6. PUHI alliance - building and operating a biochar production plant
